Asset Owner: Sydney Water
The project scope involved the installation of a new critical section of Sydney Water pipeline during the RMS upgrade of The Northern Road (Stage 2) by Lendlease.
The following construction works were involved.
Trenching & shoring depths from 1.5-7m
Laying and welding of steel pipe
Micro tunnel bore under Thompsons Creek
Concrete encasement of SCL pipe
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) implemented a program of works to upgrade 34 kilometres of The Northern Road, between Narellan and Penrith. The upgrade formed part of the joint NSW and Commonwealth Government’s $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to upgrade road infrastructure in western Sydney over the ten years.
This total project was assessed as Critical State Significant Infrastructure (CSSI) meaning, the Minister for Planning had determined that it is essential to the State.
Our involvement was crucial to meet the construction timeline for Sydney Water’s scheduled shutdown of the existing pipe and subsequent cut-in and connection to the new system, concurrent with construction of the roadway.
